Pediatric House Calls {Great For New Parents!}
We got together with Dr. Marc Yandle and Dr. Nate Cook of Dockside Pediatrics to bring you answers to some of the most common questions we get from new parents!
We are so happy to tell you about what this office has for you and your family. There is no doubt that both of these doctors have respect, compassion and show such care for everyone who walks through their doors.
Dockside Pediatrics has a few differences than what you typically expect from a pediatricians office and we are excited to tell you all about it!
Not only can you contact your baby's primary doctor directly and make same day appointments, but they.make.house.calls. I mean.....yes please! Moms (especially) you know why that's amazing.
Baby's born, a day and a half, maybe two days later you are released from the hospital just to call and get your peanut in for a check up a day or so after that! Now, I am all for preventative care and looking out for these sweet babies, but venturing out shortly after giving birth comes with it's fair (it's actually not fair) share of hurdles to cautiously climb over.
Before leaving the house you're going to want to:
go to the potty (can you tell I have five kids?) and freshen up your post-birth pad that might as well be one of your babies diapers
change your squish's diaper
fill their little baby tank and pray you don't have to nurse in the office, because nursing in public within the first couple weeks can naturally be a challenge
make sure you have extra clothes for them and all the other diaper bag essentials
change squish's diaper again.
put them in the carseat and get ready to roll
take a deep breath for making it to the car and head off to the doctor!
half way there start shushing very loudly because your baby woke up
have your partner try gently pumping the breaks because every time you're at a complete stop, crying ensues (oh that's just me?)
Without even kidding I could drag these bullet points on and on with all the possible scenarios to prepare for when..well, just leaving your house with a baby. Though we neeeed to get out and function with the rest of society some times being able to avoid it until we are ready just isn't a bad thing.
Having your pediatrician come to you, instead of you going to them, sounds quite magical if I'm being honest.
Like I mentioned earlier, before getting lost in the excitement of convenience, here are commonly asked questions from new parents when searching for a pediatrician.
1. How do parents become a part of your practice?
Dockside Pediatrics is enrolling new patients at this time. The easiest way to find out more information about our practice is through our website at www.docksidepediatrics.com. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email (info@docksidepediatrics.com) or call the office at 910-399-1954 to speak with Dr. Marc or Dr. Nate. You can enroll through the website or at your first scheduled appointment.
2. Do they need to see you during pregnancy?
Dockside Pediatrics will have regularly scheduled open houses each month to meet new families and discuss the benefits of our practice. New parents can attend an open house or schedule an individual appointment to see the office and meet us. During these times we will discuss more about our wonderful benefit for newborns - our Home Visits! It is not a requirement to meet us before delivery, but it is a wonderful opportunity for you to feel more comfortable in selecting a pediatrician for your newest family member.
3. How are emergencies handled?
As with any situation, if there is a life threatening emergency, you should call 911 immediately. However, through our personalized service and attention, we hope to be your first contact for all other medical concerns. Through direct contact to your doctor, we can discuss your concerns and address them efficiently, whether that is in the office or over the phone. If your child needs emergency care, hospitalization, or referral to a sub-specialist, your doctor will coordinate care and work closely to assure your child gets the care they need!
4. Is there a call in policy?
All of our Dockside Pediatric members schedule appointments through our phone app and communicating with their doctor directly. This makes it easy for a parent to notify us if they are running late or need to reschedule. As parents, we know that life can be unpredictable and schedules busy. Our extended office visits and limited patient numbers allow us to be flexible and work with your schedule better.
5. Do you require vaccinations?
Dockside Pediatrics focuses on personalized medical care for your child that is built on trust. We believe that all medical care is a personal choice of the parent and their child, including vaccines. Therefore, we do not require patients to vaccinate to be members of Dockside Pediatrics. Dr. Marc and Dr. Nate do recommend vaccinations as an important part of the well-care of children and community and will have an open, honest discussion of the benefits and efficacy of vaccinations with each family individually.
6. Will you perform circumcisions?
Most circumcisions will be performed in the hospital by the pediatric hospitalist service, a wonderful team of medical providers with whom Dr. Marc and Dr. Nate work closely. We can perform circumcisions in the office if requested.
7. Does your practice offer any additional classes?
We will soon begin to offer open houses and other classes on a regular basis to emphasize the different benefits and personalized care provided at Dockside Pediatrics. We also hope to host other medical providers in the clinic to teach all of us about different aspects of pediatric care, such as lactation, physical therapy, different medical sub-specialties, essential oils in pediatrics, etc. Tune-in to our website and facebook page for upcoming classes!
There you have it! Sounds great right? If you have any questions about local resources to help you transition with your new little baby, please feel free to give us a call 910-707-4507 or send an email to info@wcdoulas.com.
